How to Protect Your Hair Against the Cold

It’s all fun and games until it isn’t. Once Halloween is over, fall happens quickly and winter arrives along with it’s plummeting temperatures. Is it just us or does it always feels like a bit of surprise?

Winter can be tough on hair (and skin). This year, here is what you need to know to prepare and protect your hair from the elements:

Protect Your Head
If you are heading out into elements like snow, wind, or rain, be sure to wear a hat to protect your hair. Frequent exposure can leave your hair prone to breakage resulting in lifeless or unhealthy looking hair.

Humidify Your House
If you run the heat indoors, keeping a humidifier on can create a moist environment that hydrates the air and keeps your locks free of static or excessive dryness.

Regular Cuts
Scheduling out haircuts every four to eight weeks can nurture your hair by trimming away developing dry or split ends. If you book in advance at your favorite salon, you’ll know exactly when you are due.

Less Hot Water
Minimize exposure to hot water when showering. We know it can feel extra good to crank the heat up but in actuality, this can remove vital moisture from your hair and skin leaving you susceptible to drying out.

Go Easy on the Tools
When styling, go easy on the blow drying or flat ironing. Try and alternate with air drying when possible. If you must use tools, be sure to use a protective spray to lock in moisture.

Deep Conditioner is Your Friend
In winter, we recommend deep conditioning your hair at least once a week to replenish lost moisture. This is a fun habit to take care of your locks and keep your hair healthy through the cold season.
